On And Off

I'm writing this post as a little preview of what's to come.

I'm pretty exhausted in all honesty. I've been on vacation for the last week and I will be for the next but I will write this week.

Once I come back, however, I will start to write more frequently and prepare to begin writing daily in September.

I've got a few projects that I want to get started to link to the blog and I hope to get those up and running as soon as I can. 

For now, enjoy the remaining weeks in summer!

 Game 46: Leafs vs. Jets Simon B The new guy is in! Nick Foligno made his Leafs debut last night. He was acquired just before the trade deadline on April 12th but had to quarantine for a week before joining the team in Winnipeg to make his first start as a Leaf. He was slotted on the top line with Matthews and Marner, which ought to have gotten the Jets’ attention as much as it did mine, for reasons I’ll get to in a moment. An injury to Zach Bogosian (both Zachs on the Leafs are now injured) meant that Rasmus Sandin got the call to play alongside Travis Dermott on the third defensive pairing. Jack Campbell got the start in the net. The Game Back to Foligno:it's unusual for a new player to start on the top line right away. Canada's Quest

 Simon B This is the first time in almost 40 years since we've been able to talk about Canada making an impact on the world stage in football (soccer). Not since 1986 has Canada qualified for a World Cup but this year, they have a legitimate shot at going back to the biggest tournament in the world. The journey to Qatar is definitely not an easy one for the Canadians though. They've got daunting tasks ahead of them in this final qualifying stage like playing Mexico, Costa Rica, and the US who are all regulars in the world cup.  In the past, Canada has barely ever even made it to this stage in the competition (final qualifying stage) so just being here feels like a win. But this team is a bit different than others. The Canadians finally have depth and star talent that is recognizable on the world stage. The End of Football?

  Simon B I'm sure you saw this title and are a bit confused. How can football end? It's one of the oldest sports in history and it's the most widely played sport in the world. But over the last decade or so there's been a pattern in European football that has really put the fan's interest second. There are so many different competitions but it's always the same teams winning. Each country has its own domestic league of about 30 teams or so but it's as if there are 2 or 3 teams that can compete at the highest level and everyone else is left found for themselves because they don't have enough money to bring in top players and get better.  This is proof that in football, money is king no matter what.  Right Now, It's Not Enough The most prestigious award in European football is the Champions League trophy.
